How do we deal with the problem of resistance? 

In this case, ‘the problem’ means something to consider, not something that necessarily has a solution.

Resistance itself implies that there is some kind of oppression. Oppression comes in many different forms (from economic to social) and in varying degrees (from a slap on the wrist to death). Resistance is a reaction to these forms and degrees.

Third generation of Kim power Kim Jong Un made general?

Above we see the inklings of resistance. The workers of North Korea are questioning a third generational Kim retaining power in North Korea. There is no action besides the quiet mutterings of those daring to voice these concerns, but even that minimal amount of resistance stikes fear in the hearts of the strongest workers.

This reaction implies a heavy degree of oppression on the workers. It feels omnipresent for these workers and causes feelings of paranoia. Talking dissent is enough to cause concern for these workers, any actual action against their oppressive government must be truly dangerous.

 

DISOBEY KIM JONG-UN AND BE IMPRISONED, TORTURED, AND EXECUTED

Depending on the degree of oppression, resistance is dangerous. For the people of North Korea under Kim Jong-Un’s rule, resistance is deadly.

After several poorly thought out doctrines put in place by Kim (100,000 home initiative & currency reform come to mind) the people of North Korea are struggling.

They know who they have to blame and talk turns to action as the people get desperate enough.

This action turns into resistance, and the oppressive apparatus takes its due.

Resistance turns from being personally dangerous into a selfish act as generations of a traitor’s family pay for the indidividual’s actions. 

 

WHERE THERE IS TYRANNY THERE IS RESISTANCE!

Discouraging resistance through threats against family members might deter individuals… for a time.

This is an intensified oppression, however, and will garner an intensified resistance. Individuals become entire families, entire families become neighborhoods and the process continues.

In this way, resistance is infectious. Oppression is a common denominator that can span race, sexuality, religion and other denominations meant to differentiate groups. When oppression becomes all-encompassing, the need to resist will unite the oppressed.

Can Biden Succeed where Trump Failed with North Korean Denuclearization?

Will President Biden affect a positive impact on relations with Kim Jong Un and North Korea?
Or will they follow in the footsteps of the Trump administration’s failed polices? 

Just days before President Biden’s inauguration, Kim Jong-Un flexed North Korea’s military might in a display of power with a large parade, revealing weapons of mass destruction, despite the country’s impoverished populace.

Now, since Kim Jong-Un has clearly shown that North Korea is ready to continue fighting denuclearization, all eyes are on President Biden to see how he and his administration will handle this conflict.

Based off of news sources such as the Associated Press, it seems Biden’s plan will take a much different tack than the Trump administration.

Biden plans to work very closely with allies such as South Korea. He is also unlikely to meet in person with the North Korean leader due to Trump’s failed summits with him in the past. 

It seems that the main goal of the Biden administration is to reach diplomacy and come to an agreement on some clear steps toward denuclearization.

The Biden administration believes that through less forceful maneuvering and working in conjunction with our allies, it will yield greater results than Trump’s buddy-buddy approach.

Overall, it’s hard to say if the Biden administration will be able to affect any lasting changes. But as Biden is much more willing to work with the leaders of other countries and make strategic plans, working to influence a compromised agreement, we can all have hope that this administration will do much better than the previous administration.

Where is the wife of Kim Jong-Un’s, Ri Sol-ju?

Where is Kim Jong-Un’s wife, Ri Sol-ju?

Why has caused her disappearance from the public eye over the last year?

Very little is known about the family of Kim Jong-Un, but we do know he has a wife and three children.

His wife, usually by his side, has been noticeably absent from the public eye for nearly a year. Could the reason for her disappearance be something more than some sudden desire for privacy?

While rumors or even conjecture are no substitute reliable fact-checked news sources, in the case of North Korea, it is often all the international media has to go on.

Shall we explore the rumors?  

Ri had last been seen in January 2020 for the Lunar New Year holiday and had just resurfaced in the media on February 17th of 2021.

Speculation in her long “sabbatical” had been rampant.

 

The first supposition was that she simply refrained from outdoor activities due to the coronavirus or simply in residence with their children.

While an otherwise reasonable hypothesis, to be invisible in the North Korean media for over a year, in addition to the DPRK’s assertions that it had no cases of the virus makes this theory questionable.

Is North Korea really free from Covid 19?

A second wave of rumors spread that she was in poor health, or or possibly pregnant!

Though this theory is more likely, especially if she was pregnant and trying to avoid getting the virus.

A final rumor is that she might have been forcibly removed from the public eye or potentially already executed.

Since Ri’s first public appearance in 2012, she has gained respect as the first lady of North Korea.

In fact, in 2018 she was even allowed to meet a Chinese delegation without Kim, and many thought she was rising to further prominence in the state.

Was she was rising to far in prominence?

With that level of power, it’s reasonable to assume that Kim didn’t want it to spiral out of his control (at which point political executions become a real possibility), so he forced her out of the public eye for a year.

If there becomes a symbol of modernity or change, like a woman being respected in politics, the best way to prevent an uprising or revolution is to take away that symbol from the public.

Nonetheless, Ri is safely back and being seen out and about again, and the media is eager to know where she has been for all this time, something the public may never figure out.
